It is barely a month since the Loitokitok District hospital casual workers went on strike. To strike the nerve, patients are in much deplorable conditions as they sleep on wire beds without mattresses. There has been outrage in social media over the deplorable conditions of Kajiado County hospitals.
Patients are sharing beds, a case so severe that 3 patients share a bed. It is alledged that there are also few staff i.e. in two weeks, there are only 2 doctors to attend the patients, there is no physician and there are only 3 consultants a pediatrician, a surgeon and gynecologist.
It is sad that a patient in pain sleeps all night on a wire bed which he pays Ksh. 250 for. It is also sad that these poor people have got no alternative as most private hospitals have no wards. It is time that leaders revive this hospital to much better standards than before. It is time that leaders do not turn a blind eye on the state of health facilities while the lives of the residents, the same people who put them to power are at stake.
